Black Hole Sun
2015
In 2015 I was assigned to a spell on Lake Como’s one and only island, Comacina. I stayed at one of the Artists’ Homes strewn about that sliver of land, buildings designed by rationalist architect Pietro Lingeri between 1937 and 1940. After Montecristo, here was another island serving as a device for construing reality. Cut off from terra firma, an observatory onto the world around. A place of mystery where unique phenomena occur: one such, a phantom eclipse casting a metaphysical veil over the lakeside scene. Polaroid backlights every detail, and time seemingly stands still.
